About
Meghali Banerjee is a Postdoctoral Scientist in the Health Data Science and Intelligence (HDSci) Lab at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on developing machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and large language model (LLM) approaches to extract structured clinical information from radiology reports, enabling fine-grained phenotyping and improved modelling of liver disease progression in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
Meghali trained in Physics, graduating with an MSci from University College London (UCL), before completing a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Leicester. During her doctoral research, she developed deep learning methods for automated ischaemic stroke subtype classification using routinely collected healthcare data. This work established her broader research interest in translating unstructured and multimodal clinical data into robust predictive tools.
Prior to joining the HDSci Lab, Meghali worked as a machine learning algorithm developer in industry and co-founded an early-stage health technology venture focused on ultrasound-enabled clinical research.

Meghali's research interests include deep learning, natural language processing, large language models, and medical image analysis using real-world healthcare data.
